One thing Kimberley Walsh loves about taking time off from Girls Aloud, is not having to be groomed and styled every day when the band perform.
The 28-year-old says it can get a bit boring being glammed-up all the time, so she now appreciates it more when she does get her hair and makeup done for photo shoots.
“I like my low-maintenance lifestyle, it’s a bit wash and go, so it’s quite nice,” explained Kimberley, who recently admitted that she misses her band mates.
“But when I do the odd photoshoot and TV stuff, I do get excited about getting dressed up because it’s not every single day.
“By the time we took our little break, we were literally like, ‘I cannot have my hair pulled again’ because if it’s every day it doesn’t feel like a treat anymore. But now it does and I’m grateful not to have to do it myself.”

Kimberley Walsh loves the “low-maintenance” lifestyle of not being in Girls Aloud.

The 28-year-old singer admits she had got bored of being groomed by a stylist before the band went on their hiatus but now feels like she is having a “treat” when someone else does her hair and make-up for photoshoots.

She explained: “I like my low-maintenance lifestyle, it’s a bit wash and go, so it’s quite nice.

Despite enjoying her relaxed appearance, Kimberley insists she can’t wait to reunite with her bandmates – Cheryl Cole, Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts and Nadine Coyle – later this year.

She said: “I will get excited because we do miss each other and as much as it is crazy mayhem it is good fun and it is nice having the girls to support you.

“It’s different being on your own – bittersweet. There’s good and bad to everything isn’t there?”

OK! columnist Kimberley Walsh says she misses the Girls Aloud girls
KIMBERLEY Walsh has told OK! Magazine she can’t wait to get back together with the rest of Girls Aloud.
OK! columnist Kimberley Walsh told us she misses Girls Aloud and wants to get back on the road.
She told this week’s OK! Magazine: “I will get excited [when we get back together] because we do miss each other and as much as it’s crazy mayhem it is good fun and it is nice having the girls to support you.
“It’s different being on your own. Bittersweet – there’s good and bad to everything isn’t there?”
Our girl Kimberley, who like Nadine Coyle, Nicola Roberts, Cheryl Cole and Sarah Harding has taken 12 months out to focus on individual projects, says she’s just dying to get back on stage.
She added: “I just love performing and I also really like working. So although we’re supposed to be having a bit of a break, I don’t want to rest too much, because I get bored.”
But she’s well aware that being a pop star has a shelf life.
She told us: “Some people do get a really long career out of it but you can never assume that. So yeah it’s sensible to try other things.”
And could there be a Girls Aloud episode of US hit show Glee on the cards?
“That would be amazing. Why can’t they do that?! You could completely turn our songs in a a theatrical direction if you wanted. It would be amazing – put it out there please!”

Kimberley Walsh has been left with long-term injuries from her charity trek up Mount Kilimanjaro, she has revealed.
The 28-year-old Girls Aloud singer scaled Africa’s highest mountain with bandmate Cheryl Cole and the likes of Ronan Keating, Gary Barlow, Fearne Cotton and Alesha Dixon for Comic Relief in March last year.
But she told OK! magazine: “I felt so exhausted afterwards and ever since I’ve had quite a lot of problems with my hips – so I had to rest for a while really to strengthen my joints and stuff.
“I think I did myself a bit of long-term damage actually! It’s fine, though, it was worth it. But don’t worry, I don’t need a hip replacement just yet!”
The stars raised more than £1.5 million for Comic Relief from the five-day gruelling trek up the 19,300ft (5,900m) peak.
They suffered from altitude sickness, endured sleepless nights while battling oxygen levels half of those at sea level and temperatures of minus 15C (5F) during the ascent, which was described as “hell on earth”.

What are your daily beauty essentials?
I use Pond’s Cold Cream Cleanser after I’ve showered in the morning – it’s really good value and lasts for ages. Then I moisturise with Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula, which smells amazing and keeps my skin super-soft. I’m not snobby at all about the products I use.
Your make-up must-haves?
Benefit Hoola bronzing powder, worn high on my cheekbones for a natural glow, and Bad Gal eyeliner, which I love to smudge for a worn-in look. Mac’s coral lipgloss is another all-time favourite. And I have to have mascara – I’ve been using Max Factor Masterpiece for ever.
What makes you feel glamorous?
Big hair! I don’t feel complete doing a gig or going on a night out without it. I know it’s
bad for my hair but I like to use tongs and rollers and do lots of backcombing to give it
extra volume.

What is always in your fridge?
Hummus, Diet Coke and salad – they are my staples.
Guilty pleasures?
I love Thai food – when I’m travelling inThailand I really indulge.
Your favourite tipple?
Prosecco – I prefer it to champagne.
How do you stay in shape?
I go through phases where I’ll work out at the gym every day, but in general I’m not that disciplined. So I try to mix it up by going for walks and using fitness DVDs too – Davina McCall’s are particularly good.
Is there anything you’d change about your body?
I’d love longer legs – Giselle’s would do me fine!
